This is made from a lovely, lovely fabric. It looks like crushed velvet without the shiny tacky appearance, it handles like a light velvet. It's crease resistant and pretreated with Scotchguard to minimise staining. It's warm - perhaps a little too heavy for all-concealing kit in the hot summer days, but trust me, at night, dusk, in
the winter and the rain, this stuff has the warmth and rain-hampering power of faux suede.
This is a plain shadow grey robe, made from the Simplicity pattern 9887, although I have so many different hood templates now from so many different patterns I honestly don't recall if this is the hood that came with the same pattern.
The cloak itself is 'shouldered' - that means that the side seams at the shoulders are curved to fit the rounded shape of the shoulders. This helps to prevent it slipping off your shoulders and dragging back, or indeed sliding forward around your shoulders when bending down.
Each seam and hem is triple stitched; to make the garment more durable, to make it aesthetically quite pleasing and also to make the inside of each seam tidy and fray-resistant. The hood was fairly close fitted to the head with a top point at the rear as illustrated in the photographs. The hood is lined with silver lining fabric for comfort
and aesthetic look when the hood is down. It has no fastener to allow the new owner to add a clasp or lacing of their choice - this can be done for you at cost if you would like me to take care of this detail for you.
